The only thing I know is that it is there and happening in my case. You should check out Rob Sherwood's website he has an interesting article on modern radio AGC issues.ĭon't get me wrong, I'm not bagging the 7700 out, in fact it's a fantastic radio and I'm glad you don't find the same problems as I do, but where I live may have different characteristics to where you do. My old Icom 765 I sold recently didn't even REGISTER any transients, ever. I have a Kenwood TS 2000 that doesn't suffer from ANY transients at ALL! Different AGC setup than the other two radios. I mostly see this on all the bands but more intense on 80 and 40 meters.įluorescent light starters are one of the worst offenders. The TS 990 only every now and then overreacts to pulses but they are nowhere near as prevalent as in the 7700 or intense. You can increase the AGC response to medium or fast to try to get the receiver to recover quicker but this gets very fatiguing(listening) after a while. Not sure about CW as I have not heard any reports on this. I should have clarified that this is most pronounced in SSB with a slow AGC return. I know of others who have also complained of this issue.
